As California is one of the most advanced states in the United States in terms of clean energy policy, possessing the largest market and the most stringent technical standards, the CEC certification is regarded within the industry as the most authoritative and influential state-level standard.

The Solar Equipment List is its official register for solar and energy storage equipment. Only devices meeting stringent safety, performance, and energy efficiency standards qualify for inclusion. Equipment listed on the CEC register becomes eligible for participation in California's various solar and energy storage subsidy programmes, such as the Self-Generation Incentive Programme (SGIP). Users can receive rebates or incentive funds by installing qualifying systems.
